The Issue
Your treadmill is making grinding, squeaking, thumping, or rattling sounds that weren't there before. Noise problems indicate mechanical issues that will worsen if ignored.
Types of Noises & Their Meanings
SQUEAKING or SQUEALING
Cause: Lack of lubrication, worn belt, or deck surface deterioration
Solution: Apply silicone lubricant under the belt
Urgency: Medium - won't cause immediate damage but needs attention
GRINDING or SCRAPING
Cause: Belt misaligned and rubbing the side rails, or debris under the belt
Solution: Center the belt and clean thoroughly
Urgency: High - can damage belt and deck quickly
THUMPING (rhythmic)
Cause: Walking belt stretched unevenly, creating a "wave" patternSolution: Belt replacement needed
Urgency: Medium - uncomfortable but not immediately dangerous
CLICKING (metallic)
Cause: Loose parts, worn bearings, or motor issues
Solution: Tighten all visible bolts and inspect motor
Urgency: High - could indicate serious mechanical failure
HUMMING or BUZZING
Cause: Motor strain, electrical issue, or loose motor mount
Solution: Check motor mounting bolts and electrical connections
Urgency: Medium-High - monitor closely
DIY Noise Diagnosis Steps
Step 1: Identify the Source Run the treadmill at 3 mph and walk around it. Determine if noise comes from:
Front (front roller/motor area)
Rear (rear roller)
Center (belt/deck interface)
Sides (belt rubbing rails)
Step 2: Tighten All Bolts Use appropriate tools to check and tighten:
Motor mounting bolts
Console mounting bolts
Frame bolts
Roller bolts
Step 3: Lubricate Apply treadmill lubricant even if you recently did so. Sometimes friction points need extra
attention.
Step 4: Check for Debris Remove the motor cover and vacuum the motor area. Clean under the belt
thoroughly.
Step 5: Belt Alignment Ensure the belt isn't rubbing the side rails (see Problem 4 for alignment instructions).
Professional Diagnosis Needed For:
Persistent grinding noises after lubrication Bearing replacement (front or rear rollers)
Motor repair or replacement
Deck replacement
Noise problems are among the most common treadmill repair requests in Sharjah and Ajman. Our technicians
carry diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact source quickly.
Estimated Repair Cost: AED 120-500 depending on the cause
Important: Never ignore noise problems. What starts as a squeak can become a costly motor or deck replacement if left unaddressed.
