Why Lubrication Is Critical
Proper belt lubrication is THE most important maintenance task for treadmills in UAE. It reduces friction by up
to 50%, prevents motor strain, extends belt life, and eliminates most common problems. In Dubai's climate,
treadmills need more frequent lubrication due to dust and temperature fluctuations.
How Often to Lubricate
Home Use:
Light use (1-3 hours/week): Every 4-5 months
Moderate use (3-5 hours/week): Every 3 months
Heavy use (5+ hours/week): Every 2 months
Commercial Gyms in Dubai/Abu Dhabi : Monthly lubrication minimum
Bi-weekly for heavy traffic machines
Signs You Need Lubrication NOW:
Treadmill stops when you step on it
Belt hesitates or jerks
Motor sounds labored
Burning smell
Belt feels rough or dry to the touch
Walking requires extra effort
The Right Lubricant
✅ ONLY USE:
100% silicone treadmill lubricant
Brands: Life Fitness, Technogym, or generic treadmill-specific silicone
❌ NEVER USE:
WD-40 (not a lubricant, will damage belt)
Motor oil
Vegetable oil
Any petroleum-based products
Multi-purpose lubricants
Step-by-Step Lubrication Process
Time Required: 15-20 minutes
You'll Need:
100% silicone treadmill lubricant (4 oz bottle)
Microfiber cloth
Vacuum cleaner
Allen wrench (for belt loosening)
Instructions : STEP 1: Clean First Turn off and unplug the treadmill. Wipe the belt surface with a damp cloth to remove dust
and sweat. Let it dry completely.
STEP 2: Loosen the Belt Slightly Loosen the rear adjustment bolts 1/2 turn on each side. This makes
application easier and ensures lubricant spreads properly.
STEP 3: Apply Lubricant Lift one long edge of the belt (center area works best). Apply a thin stream of
silicone lubricant along the entire length of the deck in a zigzag pattern. Use about 1-2 oz per side.
STEP 4: Repeat Other Side Lift the opposite edge and repeat the application.
STEP 5: Distribute the Lubricant Re-tighten the belt to proper tension (2-3 inch lift in center). Turn on the
treadmill and walk at 3-4 mph for 5-10 minutes. This spreads the lubricant evenly across the entire deck surface.
STEP 6: Wipe Excess After distribution, wipe any excess lubricant that appears on the belt surface. There
should be no visible lubricant on top.
Pro Tips from Ironedge Technicians:
1. Don't Over-Lubricate: More is NOT better. Excess lubricant attracts dust and can cause belt slipping.
2. Mark Your Calendar: Set a recurring reminder on your phone. Preventive lubrication saves thousands in
repair costs.
3. Pre-Lubricated Belts: Some newer treadmills (certain Life Fitness and Technogym models) have factory
pre-lubricated belts that never need additional lubricant. Check your manual.
4. Temperature Matters: In UAE summers, store lubricant in a cool place. Heat can affect consistency.
5. Test First: If unsure about your belt type, apply a small amount and test. Some commercial-grade belts
need special lubricants.
